Angelo Tomas Reyes, the 65 years old Former Armed Forces Chief and Defense Secretary of the Philippines, who also known as the “everywhere man” or simply “Jack of all Secretaries” was reported earlier this Tuesday, February 08, 2011 dead, not because of the mild stroke he suffered quite before, but because of the gunshot wound in his chest in an apparent suicide he made in the front of the grave of his mother at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona confirmed that Reyes was proclaimed dead on arrival at the Quirino Medical Center in Quezon City. According to the spokesman of the said hospital Dr. Fernando Lopez, Reyes was brought to their hospital at exactly 7:45 am to revive, but his heart probably hit.

Reyes had no blood pressure, heart beat, and respiratory rate, his pupils were dilated, he was not breathing and had cold, clammy skin, Lopez said.

Ona refused to say what was the cause of the gunshot wounds was and could not determine the kind of the gun used, saying “He “was brought here to the emergency room, wala nang pulso at di na humihinga. Nilagyan ng tubo at nag-resuscitation, swero, binigyan ng gamot. But after 45 minutes, which means that at 8:32 a.m., talagang wala na (without pulse and not breathing. He was tubated and resuscitated, put on IV. But after 45 minutes, which means that at 8:32 a.m., he’s really gone).”

Ona also said that the autopsy of the body of the ex-AFP chief will be conducted to determine if he really committed suicide.

It was reported before that the former military chief and Energy secretary was in controversy because of the P 50 million “send-off” money he allegedly received after he retired.

Reyes is supposed to testify on the House committee of Justice for inquiry this day on the plea bargain deal entered into by the government and former military comptroller Carlos Garcia.

The retired secretary could no longer the smear campaign against him and his family.

“Not my family.” These were the words of Reyes when his name got involved in the congressional investigations on the alleged AFP financial irregularities.

“I have nothing to do with and have no involvement in the plea bargain agreement,” he said in a letter sent to House justice committee chairperson Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas on Monday night.

Many had accused Reyes, and now that he’s already dead, evidence for the investigation is nowhere to find. Who do you think is worth to blame?
