The first bill signed by President Bongbong Marcos to law was the SIM Card Registration Act. Following the signing of the bill turning it into a law, telcos are now given the time to prepare for the actual implementation of the measure.

The SIM Card Registration Act was pushed in the Congress amid massive scamming and spamming incidents in the country. Many people are hopeful that it will help prevent such incidents to take place again. A similar bill was pushed under the previous administration but it was vetoed by the former President.

Key officials in the different fields say that the new measure may not be able to totally stop scamming and spamming but may help reduce the number of such incidents. The law is effective 15 days after it is published in the Official Gazette.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) previously explained that the IRR or the implementing rules and regulations of the measure will be out 60 days after the effectivity of the law.
