Born on September 13, 1957, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is the only son of the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and former First Lady Imelda Marcos. His father was the representative of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte when Bongbong was born. Two years later, the elder Marcos became a senator.

Bongbong Marcos was eight years old when his father became president of the Philippines. When he reached 18 years old, his father was still president of the country of the 1972 declaration of Martial Law which extended his term. His family is facing issues about their alleged “ill-gotten” wealth and the heartbreaking happenings during the regime of his late father.

Currently 64 years old, former Sen. Bongbong Marcos is married to Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos. Their marriage is blessed with three (3) sons – Ferdinand Alexander III “Sandro”, Joseph Simon “Sy”, and William Vincent “Vince”.

Bongbong Marcos Political Career

Marcos Jr. was 23 years old when he became the vice governor of Ilocos Norte. In 1983, he became the governor of the province and he held power until his family was ousted by the People Power Revolution. It was after the death of his father in 1989 when they were allowed to go home to the Philippines. In 1992, he was elected as the representative of the 2nd District of Ilocos Norte. In 1998, he served the province as their governor again.

In 2010, Marcos Jr. ran for a seat in the Senate and won a spot under the Nacionalista Party. In 2016, he took the vice presidential race but lost to Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. Currently, he is one of the presidential aspirants for the 2022 Elections.
