Igorot Tribe-Garonne Builds Makeshift Bicycles w/ Unique Designs
The Igorot Tribe-Garonne earned praises and admiration online for building makeshift bicycles with unique designs.
Bicycle is a human-powered or motor-powered assisted, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. It is one of the most popular transportation vehicles in the country.
Filipinos are also known for being creative and artistic people. The tribe Aborigine has used their talents in drawing and carving to create a unique bicycle, which serves as a service to their point of destination.
The tribe Aborigine or popularly known as Garonne created a bike made of wood with unique designs. The makeshift bikes have different designs such as dragon, lion, deer, and other animals.
The designs are quite complicated, which indicates the overwhelming talent of those indigenous tribes. The bikes were not just designed but they serve as a mode of transportation for those people.
The makeshift bicycles went viral after it was posted by a Japanese photographer Mr. Richard Haw. Mr. Haw was impressed after he saw the unique designs and riders wearing traditional outfits including ‘bahag’.
“I was walking to my truck in the town when we were treated to the spectacle and it just so happens that I had my camera on hand and snapped the cowboy-inspired scooter zooming downhill. Owning a motorcycle is considered a status symbol for people of humble backgrounds. Since most of them really earn enough to afford the real thing they would just make imitations of scooters by whatever means they have,” Richard said.
Aside from being a transport vehicle, the bike is used by the tribe to have fun. The improvised bike has no machine and pedal. Users can ride it on feet, which can run for about 25 mph.
What can you say about these bikes? Just feel free to leave your comments and reactions to this article.

Amazing innovation. I suggest to have them use bamboo bike to move from point A to B or trike made of bamboo to transport heavy agricultural produce to the market. The gov’t is encouraging cooperatives to engage the use of bamboo for building bikes or trike, for buildings, slabs, slats, fud from dabong or young shoots like Bicol Express and lumpia which they can store in the bottle for a year, please check Kawayan Restaurant in Youtube. Secret is to harvest dabong and prepare the shoots thereafter or max of 3 hours. Have fun!
