Popular Social Media Influencer and 4 TikToker to Face Charges for Mutilating Peso Bills
A social media influencer and four TikTok content creators will face charges for defacing Philippine bills.
A social media influencer and four TikTokers are the subjects of allegations filed before the Quezon City Prosecutors’ Office after they uploaded videos online showing cash being ripped, stapled, and used to wipe someone’s shoes.
The YouTube vlogger who tore a 20 peso bill in a video aired online was the target of the accusations. The public figure ripped the Philippine bill while filming a video as a part of his video content.
Additionally, complaints were made regarding a magician who used a pen to pierce a P1000 bill, a man who poured oil into a motorcycle engine using a 50 peso bill as a funnel, and one who stapled a P100 bill on a basketball rim made of plastic.
Another guy also faces complaints for throwing two P500 bills to the ground after wiping his shoes with them.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas or Central Bank said that anyone involved in damaging peso bills and coins will be subject to corresponding sanctions and penalties. Violators may face jail time and fines.
“Willful defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of Philippine banknotes and coins are punishable by a fine of not more than PHP20,000.00 and/or imprisonment of not more than five years,” BSP said.
The social media users expressed their reactions to the report:
