Isko Moreno Defends Call for Leni Robredo to Withdraw from Elections 2022

Mayor Isko Moreno Speaks on Call for Vice Pres. Leni Robredo to Withdraw from Presidential Race

ISKO MORENO – The Manila Mayor and presidential candidate defended his call for Vice Pres. Leni Robredo to withdraw from the presidential elections.

On Easter Sunday, many Filipinos were surprised by the press conference held by some of the presidential candidates in the Elections 2022 at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City. One of the presidential bets who were present at the press con was Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

Running under Aksyon Demokratiko, Mayor Isko drew flak following his statement asking Vice Pres. Leni Robredo to withdraw from the presidential race. According to him, one areas that he and some presidential candidates are looking into is the possibility that she is the thing that blocks the pipe.

Mayor Isko Moreno called for Vice Pres. Leni Robredo to “be a hero” and withdraw from the presidential race because what she is allegedly doing is not effective against the frontrunner, former Senator Bongbong Marcos. In the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey, only Marcos Jr. and Robredo have double digits and the rest of the bets are trailing behind the Vice President.

Amid the flak, Mayor Isko defended his call for Vice Pres. Robredo’s withdrawal. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Manila Mayor called the negative reactions to his call a “social injustice”.

“Kapag malaking tao ang nangbu-bully, okay lang. Kapag ang ordinaryong tao nangatwiran… masama na,” the Mayor said.

Mayor Isko expressed that it seems that there is social injustice and only the individuals in higher positions are allowed to speak. He cited that the supporters of the Vice President also called for his withdrawal in October 2021 when she announced her bid for the presidency – which was followed by the Mayor throwing tirades against the Vice President calling her a “fake leader with a fake color”.

The Manila Mayor expressed his belief that the “elitist” behavior of the camp of the Vice President is driving supporters away. He stressed that their camp already paid the price in 2019 when their senate slate did not make it to victory.

On the eve of Easter Sunday amid the press con drawing different views from the people, Vice Pres. Robredo called for her supporters not to engage in hurtful words and just focus on the campaign. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who defended her.
