Sharon Cuneta slams Salvador Panelo for singing her classic song
Senatorial aspirant Salvador Panelo reacted to the criticism he received from Megastar Sharon Cuneta for singing the song Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas.
The said song was written by the late Willy Cruz and was originally performed by Sharon, and was released in 1994. In a recent meet-and-greet that vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte did with the LGBTQIA+ community in Quezon City, Panelo sang this song.
In her Instagram post, Sharon Cuneta slammed the known ally of President Rodrigo Duterte. The Megastar said that Salvador Panelo has no right to sing the song because she only allows this to be performed in events for the Leni-Kiko tandem.
“Don’t mess with a classic,” Sharon stressed. In line with this, Panelo shared his statement addressing the reaction of the Megastar to his performance of the classic song.
“I’m sorry she feels that way. It’s one of my favorite songs because it reminds me of the great lengths I took to care for my late son, Carlo who had Down Syndrome. I honor him each time I sing the song,” the senatorial candidate said.
He added that it was his way of paying homage to the late Willy Cruz, as well as to Sharon Cuneta who recorded this song. For Panelo, that was not an effort to be elected or to benefit something from that song. “I was just trying to entertain the people who took time out of their busy lives to see and listen to us. I don’t understand what’s so offensive about that,” he added.
Salvador Panelo also stressed that he reached out to Viva regarding the copyright issue. “They’ve confirmed that I have permission to sing the song,” he said. The senatorial candidate added that he will continue to sing the song with the intention to “raise awareness for the plight of children with special needs.”
