105 Close Contacts of Omicron Patient in Camarines Sur Undergo COVID-19 Test
CLOSE CONTACTS – Nine (9) of the individuals who had exposure with an Omicron patient in Camarines Sur tested positive for COVID-19.
The COVID-19 cases in several cities and provinces in the Philippines have a surge again following the holiday season and amid a new threat – the Omicron variant. The said variant was first recorded in South Africa. Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 3.
Reported as a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned countries to exert all efforts to prevent the entry and spread of the Omicron. However, amid the travel restrictions implemented by several nations now, the variant of concern has spread across nations.
The Philippines is one of the countries with active cases of the Omicron variant. At least 40 individuals including returning Filipinos from abroad tested positive for the said variant of concern.
Two (2) of the Omicron patients are in Camarines Sur. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, both patients are fully-recovered but some of the close contacts of one of the patients tested positive for COVID-19. The patients are from Bombon and Tigaon.
According to the report, the Department of Health (DOH) Bicol said that nine (9) of the 105 close contacts of the Omicron patient from Tigaon tested positive for COVID-19. The results of their specimens were already sent to the Philippine Genome Center for genome sequencing to check if they got infected with the Omicron variant.
DOH said that Omicron is transmitted faster compared with the ordinary strain of COVID-19. The Health Department is appealing to the residents in Bicol to abide by the public minimum health standards including the wearing of face masks and avoiding crowded areas. The health agency is also encouraging the people to get vaccinated against the COVID-19.
