Sandiganbayan ordered a businessman to transfer the properties linked to the late Ferdinand Marcos to the Philippine government.
Several properties listed under a businessman tied to the late former president, Marcos Sr., according to the Sandiganbayan. Four are in Claveria, Cagayan, with an 8.1 hectare, 6 hectares, 2 hectares, and 0.82 hectares each; two are in Angono, Rizal, with a 4.96 hectare and a 56.7 hectare each; and one is in Laurel, Batangas, with a 129.15 acre. Taggat Industries is the name of the property in Cagayan, whereas Lim is the name of the property in Rizal and Batangas.
However, due to non-payment of land tax, two properties in Rizal were already sold to the provincial government in 2011. The court went on to say that the resolution was only issued to carry out the decision made in the case on December 14, 2015.
Following nearly three decades of legal fights between the government, the Marcos family, and the Lim family, among others, the Sandiganbayan’s latest resolution upholds a December 2015 verdict. During the trial, it was shown that Lim, who owned timber concessions, utilized his close relationships to the Marcos family to get forest land for his business.
According to the court, Lim Sr. was so powerful that he, Taggat, and sister enterprises acquired some timber-related benefits without the Ministry of Natural Resources’ knowledge, let alone consent. Lim’s estate and his son Alfonso Jr. declared in 2010 that they had unconditionally renounced and ceded all rights to the assets sequestered by the PCGG in favor of the Republic of the Philippines.
