The victory of Nietes was one of his memorable moments in his entire career for he was playing in his home province. Nietes hails from Murcia, Negros Occidental a town with a distance of 12,000 km. (76 miles) from the city center of Bacolod.

Referee Bruce McTavish decided to stop the fight at around 2:26 in the first round of Pinoy Pride 5 Main Event. During the early part of the first round Nietes found it hard to hardly hit Vazquez and he felt also the counterattack of the Mexican.

Nietes have also felt the power of the left hand coming from Vazquez after he missed some of his shots. Not until during the time when he cornered and landed a powerful right hook that stunned the Mexican and he was not able to stand although he tried.
