Noli de Castro is not pursuing his senatorial candidacy next year
Former Vice President Noli De Castro, who is one of the popular veteran broadcaster in the Philippines, released a statement announcing that he is withdrawing his senatorial candidacy.
De Castro, who is popularly known as “Kabayan” was the number 1 Senator when he ran in the 2001 election. However, he did not finish his 6-year term at that time because he ran and won the vice presidency three years after.
After his term as the second highest government official in the country, he returned to the broadcast industry and anchored the primetime news program TV Patrol of ABS-CBN.
On October, he announced that he will be leaving the news program to join the political arena once again. He intended to run for Senator under Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and his running mate Dr. Willie Ong.
ABS-CBN acknowledged his decision to run for Senator once again. In the statement that the Kapamilya network released, it thanked De Castro for his service and wished him well for his new journey.
On October 8, the last day of filing of the certificate of candidacy, Noli de Castro was one of the senatorial aspirants who filed their COCs. However, his decision has changed.
Based on the article in ABS-CBN News, the former VP decided to withdraw his senatorial candidacy. He thanked the Aksyon Demokratiko party and Mayor Isko Moreno for accepting him. However, the veteran broadcaster stressed that he can serve better being in the field of broadcasting.
“Isinumite ko ang aking kandidatura sa Comelec noong Biyernes. Ngunit nagkaroon ng pagbabago ang aking plano,” he said adding that he has been praying for this. “Napag-isip-isip kong mas makatutulong ako sa pagbibigay ng boses sa ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan ng pamamahayag,” Noli de Castro added.
