Manny Pacquiao’s running mate is Lito Atienza
House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza filed his certificate of candidacy on October 1 and it was revealed that he will be the running mate of Senator Manny Pacquiao.
The boxer-turned-politician announced his presidential candidacy almost two weeks ago. This happened before he officially announced his retirement from boxing. Speculation surfaced that his running mate will be broadcaster-vlogger Raffy Tulfo. However, the latter, who is known as a support of President Rodrigo Duterte, debunked the speculations that he will be running for Vice President.
On Friday, as the filing of COC commenced, Manny Pacquiao, with his wife Jinkee Pacquaio, went early to Sofitel. Lito Atienza also arrived and filed for the position of Vice President.
In a previous article published on the site of politics.com, Atienza said that Pacquiao is the right man to lead the Philippines. The former Manila Mayor stated this after the PDP-Laban faction lead by Pacquiao nominated him to be its official presidential candidate.
“Manny is the right man to lead the nation after this administration. We describe the man in four words: maka-Diyos, makatao, makabayan, makakalikasan,” the party-list representative said.
Lito Atienza, who already served his third consecutive term as party-list congressman, added that he is supporting the aim of the Senator to see the lives of every Filipino prosper.
As of this writing, personalities who already expressed plan to run for Vice President are Senate President Tito Sotto as running mate of Senator Ping Lacson and Doctor Willie Ong who will be the running mate of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
Previously, President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the endorsement of his party to run for Vice President. It was also reported that Vice President Leni Robredo is considering the option to run for the same position again in the 2022 elections.
