PDEA Chief Pushes Magna Carta Benefits for Their Agents
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency PDEA chief is pushing for magna carta for anti-drug personnel saying “Nagbubuwis din kami ng buhay”.
On Tuesday (September 14, 2021), PDEA Director-General Wilkins Villanueva pushed for the passage of a magna carta for anti-drug personnel. His plead came amid the probe into a missing agent believed to have been abducted by unidentified suspects.
Villanueva said that he wanted PDEA personnel to be included on magna carta benefits like what uniformed personnel received. He also claimed that they also risk their lives during operation.
“Mapasama sana kami doon sa nare-receive ng uniformed personnel…yung magna carta benefits for PDEA personnel, Nagbubuwis din kami ng buhay just like members of the uniformed personnel…Every time na aalis ang ahente, isang paa agad nasa kamatayan,” Villanueva said.
The PDEA chief lamented that the surviving families who agents who passed away during operations only received benefits from the agency’s provident fund. Non-members could not receive anything from it.
The official wanted PDEA personnel and its surviving families to receive compensation similar to the amount given to uniformed personnel in the police force and the military. He also revealed that the agency does not have such types of benefits.

At least three senators supported Villanueva’s appeal including Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Senators Imee Marcos and Francis Tolentino. The three agree to support a bill that would establish a magna carta for PDEA agents.
Dela Rosa said that PDEA plays an important role in the country and their job is also important like other agencies.
“I-compare mo sa ibang mga ahensya like BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection), BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology), BuCor (Bureau of Corrections), PNP, AFP na napakalaking organisasyon na nabigyan nga, ito pang napakaliit, napakaimportant na trabaho nila,” Bato said.
