Authorities Arrest 2 Fishermen Caught Fishing at Fish Sanctuary in Davao Oriental
DAVAO ORIENTAL – The authorities arrested two male residents after fishing at a fish sanctuary in Davao Oriental.
On Tuesday early morning (June 22, 2021), the personnel of Municipal Fishery Law Enforcement Team and Bantay Dagat arrested two fishermen in Hinatuan Reef, which is considered as a fish sanctuary in the province.
The fish sanctuary at Hinatuan Reef is two kilometers away from Barangay Baon. The culprits violated the policy after conducting a spear fishing using an air compressor at a marine protected area.
The authorities recovered a motorized banca, spear gun, compressor and two kilograms of assorted fish. The marine protected area is located at the town of San Isidro in Davao Oriental.
The Municipal Fishery Law Enforcement Office are preparing the complaints and charges against the two.
The Philippine government together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources are implementing stricter rules and regulations when it comes to fishing and wildlife to preserve the marine life.
Various environment groups and organizations were already doing their best to ensure the safety of wildlife creatures and natural habitat of the environment.
