OFW Deployment To Oman Temporarily Suspended Due To This
OFW DEPLOYMENT TO OMAN – Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced a temporary Overseas Filipino Workers to Oman.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, countries have extended travel restrictions in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Similarly, Oman has extended travel bans to several countries including the Philippines.
According to Bello, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) received a confirmation from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that the government of Oman included Philippine travelers in its travel ban.

As such, the DFA recommended a temporary suspension of OFW deployment. Meanwhile, the Bello did not disclose a specific reason as to why the PH also suspended its deployment to Oman and when the suspension would start.
During an interview with ABS-CBN, Bello said:
Noong isang araw, noong nagkaroon ng emergency meeting ang governing board ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), we decided to follow the recommendation of the DFA and we declared a temporary suspension, hindi naman ban, kundi temporary suspension of deployment ng mga mga OFWs sa Oman
Recently, the Philippines succumbed to a surge in COVID-19 cases. Furthermore, variants of concern were detected in the Philippines. Due to this, an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was pushed in NCR Plus.
