Famous disc jockey Nicole Hyala reveals their family’s ordeal in the past month.
NICOLE HYALA – Popular DJ Nicole Hyala and Renly Tiñana confess their daughter’s suffering from meningoencephalitis and their testimony.
The most painful thing a parent can probably face in his life is seeing his child suffer and the testimony from DJ Nicole Hyala and husband Renly Tiñana over what happened to them in the past month has touched many lives. Their eight-year-old daughter suffered from meningoencephalitis or inflammation of the brain caused by various types of organisms including viruses, bacteria, and protozoa.
DJ Nicole was not present on social media for a long time because of this. Finally opening up about their struggle, they began their confession by sharing that they have noticed some behavioral changes in her, specifically in her sleeping pattern. She’s not active unlike other children of her age who are hyper most of the time. She always tends to sleep and her fever is unusually high.
They got her admitted to a hospital but were also soon advised that they should see neuro-pediatrician for her. Right then, they wonder how could that be and why should they see a specialist if their daughter was only having high fever?
A CT scan was done on her and it was how it was discovered that she got meningoencephalitis. They were shocked at how the test turned out. They all thought that it was just a simple fever. Nicole has personally experienced the same thing with her sister who suffered from the same condition before and she’s clearly aware of how tough their situation was at that moment.
They were again recommended to another hospital which has an ICU and complete with facilities and amenities to address their daughter’s condition. They were able to get a spot in the pediatric ICU of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. She stayed there for three weeks and was in critical condition. A nasogastric tube (NGT) was attached to her so as to get her food and medicine to enter her body.
It was painful for them and what has made their situation even worse is they cannot be with her that whole time because of restrictions due to the pandemic. They stated, “Three weeks di namin nakikita. Tapos di pa kami kilala dahil di nga siya…. Tapos siyempre, hindi naman sasabihin kung ano ang sitwasyon, kung okay lang ba talaga.Sasabihin lang, ‘Mommy, okay na po si Princess. Dumumi na po. Kumain na po.’ Pero hindi sinabi sa amin kung nakikipag-usap kasi talagang wala.”
Their daughter’s critical condition went on. They were left with nothing to do but to just break down and pray intensely. There also came a point to Nicole’s husband where he has already surrendered their daughter and everything to God. They don’t want to let go of their daughter but they surrendered it all to Him.
“Lumuhod ako sa hallway ng condo. ‘Ikaw na bahala. Hindi na namin alam, e. Sige, Lord, i-offer ko kung anong dapat.’ Pero takot na takot ka bumitaw kasi anak mo yun. Sabi ko talaga sa isip ko, ‘Okay, bibitaw ako para sa anak ko kaysa nahihirapan siya.’ Hindi ko sinasabi sa asawa ko,” he said.
And one day, after several weeks of tears and prayers, their daughter woke up and that was that moment when miracle happened to them. But their daughter’s struggles didn’t stop there. She had tremors, met problems with her medicines not taking effect on her, and she was agitated to the point that they have to tie her feet on the bed just so it would prevent her from any unnecessary and harmful uncontrolled movements.
It was Nicole’s “moment of surrender”. She shared, “Yung feeling na may inabot na lubid tapos I just had to hold on. ‘Sige, Lord. Jesus, take the wheel. Ikaw na bahala. I surrender. This is not mine anymore. This should be Your battleground. Ipakita Mo sa amin how omnipotent You are… I surrender.’ And kumapit ako sa Kanya. The next day, naging kalmado si Princess. And for the first time, natulog siya ng ilang oras. Binigyan niya ako three hours na tulog. Then she started recovering.”
She was able to finally recognized her as her “Mommy” and quipped, “Totoo pala. May milagro. There is a God.”
