Phivolcs Releases Photo of Taal Volcano’s Main Crater Under Alert Level 2

The state seismology agency Phivolcs has released the photos of Taal Volcano’s main crater as it remains under alert level 2.

On Wednesday (March 10, 2021), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has shared a peek at the main crater of Taal Volcano. The photo has been taken at 10:08 a.m showing the current situation of the volcano.

The photo shows the seemingly serene lake inside the crater amid a barren landscape. The picture was taken using real-time IP camera snapshots. The volcano generate at least 51 volcanic earthquakes.

Phivolcs raised Alert Level 2 in Taal Volcano on Tuesday morning due to the increased unrest resulting to more volcanic earthquakes and acidity. The public is prohibited to enter Taal Volcano Island.

The Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has been already preparing for possible eruption. They are also prepared for possible evacuation of the residents.

The agency also prohibits the public to enter the permanent danger zone for possible sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes and minor ashfall.
