PH To Begin Negotiations For Novavax Vaccine Procurement
PH NEGOTIATIONS FOR NOVAVAX – According to a local pharmaceutical distributer, the Philippines is set to negotiate for the Novavax vaccine procurement on Wednesday.
As the year comes to a close, the Philippines is setting its eyes on several vaccines for 2021. Currently, China’s Sinovac Vaccine has become the country’s priority when it comes to procurement.
According to the Philippines’ vaccine czar, the country is expected to get doses of the vaccine around the first quarter of the next year. Additionally, the Philippines is also expected to receive 30 million doses of Covovax, Novavax Inc’s coronavirus vaccine candidate.
Meanwhile, Dr. Luningning Villa, medical director of Faberco Life Sciences Inc. said Covavax is now in its third phase of clinical trials. Moreover, around 30,000 participants have volunteered for the study across the UK, US, Mexico and India.
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Villa stated:
Encouraging po ang results ng studies. Maganda po ang immune response doon sa phase 1, phase 2 tapos na rin yan and we’re waiting for the publication. Phase 3 is ongoing and so far encouraging ang results
Currently, around P2.5 billion is allocated for the Philippines’ vaccination program under the Department of Health. Additionally, an extra P70 billion has been set aside as standby funds from either approved loans or when the government reaches its non-tax revenue targets.
Furthermore, the stimulus plan in Bayanihan 2 places another P10 billion for the vaccine procurement budget.
