Mikkelsen Speaks Out About Replacing Depp In Fantastic Beasts

Mikkelsen Speaks Out About Replacing Depp Following Removal From Fantastic Beasts

MIKKELSEN SPEAKS OUT ABOUT DEPP – Obviously, both Johnny Depp and Mads Mikkelsen are superb actors, but, replacing Depp has had its fair share of controversy.

In the previous month, Depp lost a lawsuit against UK tabloid “The Sun” which called the Pirates of the Caribbean actor a “Wife Beater”. Following this, Depp was asked to give up his role as Gellert Grindewald in the Fantastic Beasts series.

Without hesitation, Depp departed from Warner Bros and a large gap was left in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. However, the studio quickly found one of the best replacements for Depp, Mikkelsen who gave award-winning performances for his roles such as Hannibal.

Still, Mikkelsen’s role as Grindewald came at an awkward time for the actor. As such, the 55-year-old actor spoke out regarding the issue. According to an article from Unilad, Mikkelsen stated:

Well, it’s going to be me, so that’s a difference. No, this is the tricky part. We’re still working it out. There has to be a bridge between what Johnny did and what I’m going to do.

And at the same time, I also have to make it my own. But also we have to find a few links [to the previous version of the character] and some bridges so it doesn’t completely detach from what he’s already masterfully achieved.

Meanwhile, when it comes to replacing Depp, Mikkelsen said that the role was super interesting and nice. However, he, along with millions of fans, were shocked that it came after what happened. Furthermore, he called the incident with Depp “Super Sad”.

I wish both of them the best. These are sad circumstances. I hope both of them will be back in the saddle again really soon, he added.
