Decision of Metro Manila Mayors on Proposal to Allow Minors to Shop in Malls
METRO MANILA MAYORS – The mayors of the different cities have decided on whether or not to allow minors to shop in malls amid the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) measure.
The threats of the COVID-19 is still present in the Philippines. This disease has rocked the healthcare systems of over 200 countries and territories across the globe.
In the Philippines, as of this writing, the Department of Health (DOH) has logged a total of 434,357 cases of the disease including 8,436 deaths and 399,005 recoveries.
Currently, the entire nation remains under community quarantine measures. Metro Manila will stay under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until December 31.
Previously, there were conflicting reports about whether or not to allow the minors to shop in malls in Metro Manila this holiday season. Under the GCQ, children aging 17 years old and below are not allowed to go out of their homes for safety.

The Metro Manila mayors convened on the matter. They sought the suggestion of the health experts as it is a huge decision and lives are on the line.
Recently, the Metro Manila mayors gave its decision on the possibility of allowing minors in shopping malls this holiday season. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the voting result 17-0 still does not allow those who are aging 17 years old and below to go out of their homes except for essential purposes.
According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia, even the health experts are not in favor of allowing the minors to go out.
“Hindi talaga puwede, kahit gustuhin man natin. Ang uunahin natin ay ang health ng bata,” Garcia expressed based on the report.
Those who are age 18 years old to 65 years old may go to malls but must be for the essential purposes. The errands should be limited to buying medicines in the pharmacy, purchasing groceries, and buying food.
