TERESA MAGBANUA – In this topic, we are now going to know and learn about the Visayan Joan of Arc named Teresa Magbanua.

Fully named Teresa Magbanua y Ferraris, she was a Filipino school teacher who was born on October 13, 1869 at the town of Pototan, Iloilo.

She later retired from education and became a housewife after she married Alejandro Balderas, a wealthy landowner from Sara, Iloilo.

She became one of the few women to join the Panay-based Visayan faction of the Katipunan during the Philippine Revolution against Spain. She is known to be the only Filipino woman ever recorded to have led the Katipuneros and one of the pioneers of the Philippine feminist movement.

Magbanua is konwn to be an outstanding horseman and marksman and led Katipuneros in the Battle of Barrio Yoting, Capiz in December 1898 and the Battle of Sapong Hills at the same month. The former battle made her earn the title the Visayan Joan of Arc

She is also known to be a hero in all three eras, the the Spanish and the American Colonization era and the World War II.
