Also known as Gregoria de Jesús y Álvarez ot Oriang, she was the founder and vice-president of the women’s chapter of the Katipunan of the Philippines.

De Jesús was also the custodian of the documents and seal of the Katipunan, as well as the wife of the Supremo of the Katipunan Andres Bonifacio.

She was known as ‘Lakambini ng Himagsikan’ or the ‘Muse of Revolution’ in English translation, as well as the “Mother of Philippine Revolution’.

Born in Kalookan, Manila to a middle-class, pious Roman Catholic family, she was the daughter of carpenter-turned-gobernadorcillo Nicolas de Jesús.

She began her revolutionary work at the age of 18. As Bonifacio’s wife, she suffered countless hardships in performing dangerous tasks which only women could do undetected by the police.

She was lauded by revolutionary generals for her extraordinary courage and her alertness, which saves her from capture.

As the custodian of documents, she would gather all the documents of the K.K.K. (Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan), she would gather all the secret society’s documents and drive all night around town in a calesa, when the Guardia Civil inspected homes unannounced.
