Cagayan River Causes Massive Flooding and Reaches Roofs of Houses
The massive flooding caused by rainfall from Ulysses and the northeastern monsoon reached roofs of houses along Cagayan River.
Lal-lo Mayor Florence Oliver Pascual reported that around 8,000 residents in Lal-lo, Cagayan have been displaced by the severe flooding. About 2,600 families were left stranded on their houses due to flooding.
The severe flooding affects at least 21 barangays in the areas and relief goods pour out for the displaced residents residing at schools, which serves as evacuation center. Pascual said that residents residing near Cagayan River left their homes due to the floodwaters.
“Umaabot na rin po ng bubong po nila, lalong-lalo na ‘yung mga malalapit sa Cagayan River. Sila po ‘yung lubos na naapektuhan nitong pagtaas. Lahat po ng mga barangay along Cagayan River talagang hanggang bubong na po ang mga tubig po,” Pascual said.
The municipality mayor also called the attention of kind-hearted people to donate foods and medicines for the residents affected by the flood.
Meanwhile, Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba has already informed the residents that Magat Dam would release excess water after it has reached the critical level. The releasing of excess water triggers flooding in the province.
