Malacañang Says Bongbong Marcos May Declare State of National Emergency “If the Right Situation Comes”

Statement of Malacañang amid Soaring Fuel Prices in PH

Malacañang spoke on the possible declaration of a state of national emergency by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Countless Filipinos are greatly affected by the soaring pump prices in the Philippines now. The situation is triggered by the ongoing war in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Over two (2) weeks ago, U.S. and Israel launched joint airstrikes against Iran which led to the death of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several other officials and civilians. The Iranian government vowed to avenge its people.

Despite that U.S. Pres. Donald Trump warned Iran of a much harder attack if it will halt the global oil flow, Iran told the globe to get ready for oil that will cost $200 a barrel. Since the Middle East war erupted, the pump prices in the Philippines have already increased twice.

Oil Price Hike

Countless motorists even filled their vehicles’ tanks prior to the first bigtime oil price hike in the pursuit to avoid expensive pump prices. The Philippine government vowed to help the public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers amid the situation.

The Philippine government is extending cash assistance and fuel subsidies for PUV drivers as well as farmers and fisherfolks. Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured that no one will be left behind amid the soaring oil costs in the Philippines.

“Walang iwanan, walang maiiwan sa pagharap natin sa hamong ito. Asahan ninyo ang patuloy naming paggawa ng mga hakbang upang maibsan ang mabigat ng epekto ng kaganapan sa Gitnang Silangan sa taumbayan,” the President said.

Previously, Malacañang told the Filipinos that there is no need for a panic buying. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, there is enough supply of food and fuel in the Philippines.

Malacañang Claire Castro

Amid the soaring oil costs in the Philippines, Pres. Bongbong Marcos may declare a state of national emergency. According to Malacañang press officer Usec. Claire Castro, it will happen in case the situation worsens.

“The President may declare a state of national emergency if the right situation comes, especially when the government sees that many are exploiting the situation,” the Malacañang press official told dzMM during an interview.

Based on a report on Inquirer, Atty. Claire Castro explained that increase in the pump prices cannot be avoided. Meanwhile, the Malacañang official called on the private sector to “temper their greed” amid the situation.

“There is no need to impose unreasonable or excessive price increases. We need to work together and make sacrifices because many people are being heavily affected,”  Castro expressed.

Amid the situation in the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte criticized Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for allegedly having shortcomings as a leader of the country.
