CAGAYAN VALLEY FLOOD – Netizens appeal for help online as photos and videos showing devastating situation in Cagayan emerged.
The Typhoon Ulysses has surely caused and left damages way beyond our expectation. It’s aftermaths are worse compared to what Typhoon Ondoy has done and many parts in Luzon are certainly in miserable situation facing huge and high flood waters and loss of lives and important belongings.
With Luzon still reeling from the impacts of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses, Cagayan’s deep flood situation emerged online where photos, videos, and the aerial inspection circulated in various social media platforms. Accordingly, 7 gates of Magat Dam opened following the heavy downpour which caused severe flooding.
And now, in the town of Enrile in Cagayan, due to the typhoon and the northeastern monsoon (amihan), 16 barangays got submerged “underwater” literally where 7,652 families or 32,659 residents suffered from severe flood. Some stayed on their rooftops while waiting for rescue and donations.
Enrile Mayor Jun Decena told ABS-CBN TeleRadyo, “Ang taas ng tubig dito sa mga kabahayan ay 6 meters. Six meters ‘yung pinakamalalim, 3 meters ‘yung pinakamababaw.”
Hampered during the night are the evacuation and rescue operations due to loss of power. Decena, the patriarch of the town, appeal for help from the people in form of relief goods, food, and water. He added, “Lahat po ng tulong, wine-welcome ko po sa ating bayan. Itong bayan ko ang pinaka-devastated sa area, kasi kami ang catchbasin.”
Netizens online were also in deep pain seeing the situation in Cagayan and did all they can to spread the word and collect more help.
