Quezon City Bans Acts of Discrimination Against COVID-19 Frontliners, Patients
DISCRIMINATION – Under the new ordinance in Quezon City, any act of discrimination against COVID-19 frontliners and patients are now prohibited.
Almost all of the people now are isolated in their homes. The worker who are exempted from this arrangement are the frontliners. Cops, soldiers, and healthcare workers are considered as frontliners.
These brave workers are risking their lives just to save their countrymen from COVID-19. Celebrities like Angel Locsin, KC Concepcion, and Judy Ann Santos have contributed to provide the needs of the frontliners in the Philippines.
However, the frontliners experience discrimination. People avoid them due to suspicions of close contact with coronavirus patients. In a previous article, 5 men splashed bleach to the body and face of a healthcare worker in Sultan Kudarat. Fortunately, the victim was able to rush himself to the hospital.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Quezon City banned the acts of discrimination against the frontliners and COVID-19 ptients. On April 6, Mayor Joy Belmote signed the Executive Order No. 26, Series of 2020.
The new city ordinance aimd to protect the frontliners and coronavirus patients from any kind of discrimination. Discriminating the families of the workers is also prohinited.
According to the report, the new ordinance in Quezon City was enacted after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered all LGUs to issue ordinances to protect both coronavirus frontliners and patients.
“Discrimination has no place in our city, especially during this time of crisis. We must put a stop to this once and for all… ngayong may karampatang parusa na ang diskriminasyon, umaasa akong magdadalawang-isip na ang sinumang nagnanais na gumawa nito,” said Belmonte.
