Dozens of newly hatched rare Olive Ridley Turtles spotted and become an attraction on one of the resorts in Boracay.
Recently, Dozens of turtles Olive Ridley recently spotted lashing out of their shells directly on the banks of a popular hotel resort in Boracay. Movenpick Resort & Spa Boracay shared in their Facebook page photos of baby turtles lashing through the water.
Sixty-six Olive Ridley hatchlings were released back to their home on the early morning of January 10, 2020. The eggs were found last November 5, 2019, in front of the resort.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 was thankful for the turtle release on the island of Boracay, and the vigilance on turtle conservation sworn y stakeholders on the island.
“This hatchlings release and the recent visitation of whale shark last November 2019 in Boracay are good signs that the island (Boracay) is getting better and better because of the on-going rehabilitation that the government and the stakeholders are doing,” said DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Francisco E. Milla, Jr.
The turtle hatchlings looked so adorable as they flapped their tiny flippers and crawled their way towards the water. After 65 days of incubation and with the help of marine biologists, 66 of them have finally hatched.
They wrote, “It is a glorious day here at the resort as we welcome and sent off these cute little baby boys and girls!” “We’re expecting more of them to emerge from their shells within the next few days,” the Boracay resort added.
