South Korean’s government pledges to donate Php 10-million for Taal eruption victims.

TAAL ERUPTION VICTIMS – South Korean government vows to donate USD200,000 (approx. PHP10 million) to Pinoys affected by the eruption.

An update as of January 16, a total of 15,525 families or 68,638 people in Batangas, Laguna, and Cavite got affected after the Taal Volcano erupted and covered their areas with thick ashes. The once colorful tourist spot is now painted of dead gray due to ashfall from continuous volcanic activities.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that there are 257 evacuation centers serving as temporary shelters for the victims. With this, the South Korean government pledged a huge amount of money for them.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated according to PNA’s report, “Through the swift provision of relief goods to those who are in evacuation centers due to the volcanic eruption, we hope this aid will contribute to the stabilization of the victims’ lives.” This amount was seen to help some 45,000 Filipinos.

Meanwhile, in any moment, Taal can still produce hazardous eruption still remaining at Alert Level 4 in a scale of 5 which indicates that a potentially deadly and destructive eruption is “imminent.” 

In Friday, the 8 a.m. bulletin from Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said, “Activity in the main crater in the past 24 hours has been characterized by steady steam emission and infrequent weak explosions that generated dark gray ash plumes 100 to 800 meters tall and dispersed ash southwest to west of the main crater.”
