Hidilyn Diaz won gold in SEA Games 2019 weightlifting competition
Pinay weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won a gold medal in SEA Games 2019 weightlifting competition in women’s 55kg category.
Hidilyn, known as an Olympian for winning a silver medal in 2016 Rio Olympics, added a medal to her collection of achievement in sports. Aside from the said recognition, the athlete from Zamboanga also won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games.
Last year, she topped the ranking of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Senior Women’s 53kg Division. However, she went controversial when she accused of asking too much financial support for her training for 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Despite her predicaments regarding the help that she is receiving, Hidilyn proved that she can carry the name of the Philippines in the field of weightlifting. On Monday, the women’s 55kg category of the weightlifting competition for the SEA Games 2019 took place at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Based on the report from Inquirer, the Pinay weightlifter was able to lift 91 kilograms in her second attempt and registered 120 kgs in her third attempt in clean and jerk for a whopping total of 221 kgs.
Her triumph made the crowd emotional as they cheered for their fellow Filipino. It was indeed a moment of “we win as one”.
Based on the report, Thi Thuy Nguyen of Vietnam won the silver medal as she lifted 82 in snatch and 115 in clean and jerk for a total 197 while Juliana Klarisa of Indonesia won the bronze medal.
Several netizens on Twitter also expressed support and happiness to the achievement of the Pinay athlete. Here are some of the tweets.
