Netizens slammed Imee Marcos’ “Igorot namin” statement
Incoming Senator Imee Marcos received criticisms from several netizens on Twitter due to her recent “Igorot namin” statement.
The daughter of former President Ferdinand Marcos entered the magic 12 senators in the 2019 midterm elections.
Based on the report from GMA News, Imee is set to occupy the office of outgoing senator Antonio Trillanes III. In line with this, she said in an interview that she will perform a dance with the Igorots as a sort of ritual.
“Siguro magpapatawag ako ng mga Igorot namin dahil kailangan basbasan ang office ko dahil kay Sen. Trillanes yata ang nabunot,” she said during the orientation on newly-elected senators.
Imee added that she will ask the former occupant of the office to join her.
“‘Yun na lang ang natira so kung papayag si Senator Trillanes, sasabihin ko kay Sonny (Trillanes’ nickname) makikisayaw kami du’n sa mga Igorot namin para mabendisyonan ng todo,” the incoming senator said.
With this statement from the female politician, several netizens expressed their criticisms on Twitter.
There were those who pointed out that Imee Marcos inappropriately said the possessive pronoun “namin”.
Several netizens who are also Igorots slammed the statement of the senator-elect.
Here are some of the comments.
Previously, the politician received criticisms before the elections due to her educational background.
There were personalities and write ups that contradicted her claim that she had a degree from Princeton University and graduated at University of the Philippines College of Law.
In an interview with Karen Davila after the election, Imee Marcos said that there are more important issue that need to be addressed than her educational background.
