Saudi Prince Shoulders ‘Open-Heart Surgery’ of OFW
SAUDI PRINCE – A Saudi Prince volunteered to shoulder all the medical expenses and airlift an OFW who is set to undergo open-heart surgery.
We all know that medical bill is so expensive nowadays, especially when your ailment involves an operation.
If the operation was done abroad, the finances of the hospitalization and medicines tend to pile up.
Most OFW could not pay all the expenses for the surgery abroad unless if his/her fellow OFW will donate or his/her employer will pay for all the bills.
In a previous article, a Filipina domestic helper was fired after her employer learned that she has cancer.
She appealed to the Labour Tribunal in Hong Kong and was later awarded 30,000 HK dollars for the damages.
Recently, the Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom Adnan Alonto said he received a phone call from the office of Prince Turki Bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud informing him that there is an OFW named Ted who needs open-heart surgery.
Based on a report from The Filipino Times, the Saudi Prince and Asis Governor volunteered to finance Ted’s operation and airlift.
“Walang facility ang hospital sa Asir na magsagawa ng open heart surgery. Ininform ako ng opisina niya na ipadala siya rito sa Riyadh si Ted,” said Alonto.
According to the report, the Ambassador and the OFW were both surprised after the Saudi Prince said they will pay all his medical expenses.
“Talagang nabigla ako doon. Si Ted nga hindi ma explain kung ano ang ginawa niya para madeserve niya ito,” Alonto said.
Based on the report, the OFW has been working in the Kingdom for 31 years now, his wife also works as a nurse in the country.
“Si Ted po is in stable condition nakapagsalita naman siya kasama ang kanyang asawa,” he said.
The random act of kindness of the Saudi Prince will surely leave a mark in the lives of these OFW.
