Irrigation Water In Bulacan, Pampanga Will Last Until May 16
IRRIGATION – The irrigation water in the farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga will last until May 16.
Angat Dam powers a hydro-electric power plant and supplies potable water in Metro Manila and some areas in Central Luzon.
In a previous article, the water level in the said dam continues to decrease on a critical point.
On May 2, Angat dam’s water level was at 177.97 meters. It is 3 meters below the regular level which is 180.
If the water level continues to drop and hit the 160-meter mark, the supply of water would be affected and the use of water would be cut.
Based on a report from Philstar, farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga are given water for irrigation until May 16 due to the critical drop of water level.
The executive director of the National Water Resources, Sevillo David, said the status of the water level is below the minimum operating height of 180 meters.
“At this stage water supply for Metro Manila is prioritized,” said David.
According to the report, Sevillo David said they will be maintaining the distribution of 48 cubic meter/second (cms).
On the water distribution for the irrigation will also be decreased to 10 cm next month.
“Based on forecast rainfall of PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration), it can be said that the requirement for domestic/municipal supply for May and June, or until the onset of the rainy season, is sufficient,” said David.
Based on the report, the regional director of National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Josephine Salazar, said their agency will water to the farmers if ever the water irrigation in Pampanga and Bulacan abruptly cut.
