Heightened Alert Ordered of PH Immigration Following Incidents At Jolo Church
PH IMMIGRATION – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the Philippines was ordered to go on a heightened alert following the recent incidents at Jolo church.
Undeniably, the recent “blasts” at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral in Jolo, Sulu sparked worry to the public. The investigation is still ongoing now and the suspects were yet to be fully identified.
The incidents happened last Sunday, January 27, 2019. The first one took place inside the church leaving several people dead and wounded. The second one happened outside the church.
The authorities were already securing the area when the second incident at Jolo church took place. The death toll has recently increased to 22 and around 100 people were injured.
Amid the speculations over the incident and the ongoing investigation, the PH Immigration recently got an order to go on a heightened alert for the safety of the public.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the BI said in a statement that the officers of the immigration and as well as the airports were told to be “doubly vigilant in screening arriving travelers”.
Furthermore, the immigration and airport officials were also ordered to assure that the travelers got legitimate purposes in visiting the country.
According to commissioner Jaime Morente, those who cannot “satisfactorily explain their purpose” would be asked to return to where they came from aboard the first flight off to the port where they’ve been.
Based on the report, BI Port Operations Division Chief Grifton Medina also expressed that the travel control and enforcement unit and the border control and intelligence unit were already ordered to be “extra vigilant”.
