Pres. Duterte Signed the Appointment of Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal as AFP Chief-of-Staff
BENJAMIN MADRIGAL – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the appointment letter of Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. as the new AFP Chief-of-Staff.
Previously, amid the corruption allegations involving the government agency, Pres. Duterte placed the Bureau of Customs under the temporary control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Former AFP Chief Rey Guevarra was tasked to lead the operations. Ex-Customs commissioner Isidro Lapeña was moved to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
In the AFP, Chief-of-Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr.’s retirement from service is expected soon, December 12. Amid the approaching retirement of AFP Chief General, there were talks on who will replace him.
Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. was named as the next AFP Chief-of-Staff. Recently, it was confirmed by an appointment letter signed by Pres. Duterte.
Pres. Duterte signed the appointment letter of Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. as the new AFP Chief-of-Staff. It was addressed to Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana.
PNA has posted a photo of the appointment letter of Madrigal. Based on the letter, the appointment of the next AFP Chief was recommended by the AFP and the chairman of the AFP Board of Generals.
The appointment of Madrigal is effective starting December 12, 2018.
Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. who is certainly the next AFP Chief-of-Staff after his appointment gained Pres. Duterte’s approval previously led the Eastern Mindanao Command.
According to PNA, he was also a former Philippine Army Chief-of-Staff, Philippine Army Secretary Army General Staff, a brigade commander, and CSAFP Head Executive Assistant.
Madrigal was awarded several military awards including Outstanding Achievement Medals and Distinguished Service Stars.
