Red Tide Alert Up in Certain Areas in PH
RED TIDE – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) announced the list of areas wherein the red tide alert is up.
It is not safe for people to eat seafood most especially when it came from the bodies of water which is confirmed to be contaminated by red tide toxin.
In line with this, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) are in the pursuit of making announcements right away whenever certain places are confirmed to be affected, first and foremost, for the safety of the people.
Previously, red tide was detected in the coastal waters in Leyte. Meanwhile, it is now free from it.
Based on a report on GMA News Online, the agency recently made an announcement that red tide alert is up in certain areas in the Philippines specifically in Bohol, Eastern Samar, Surigao del Sur, and Palawan.
According to the report, the areas wherein the toxin was detected are the following:
- Tagbilaran City Coastal Waters (Bohol)
- Dauis Coastal Waters (Bohol)
- Matarinao Bay (Eastern Samar)
- Lianga Bay (Surigao del Sur)
- Hinatuan Bay (Surigao del Sur)
- Honda Bay (Palawan)
- Puerto Princesa Bay (Palawan)
Based on the report, Eduardo Gongona, the director of BFAR and the Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries, expressed an advice to the people not to partake alamang and shellfish that came from the areas affected by the red tide as they are not safe to be eaten.
Meanwhile, the people may eat shrimps, fish, crabs, and squid from those areas considering that the said kinds of seafood are fresh and they have been washed thoroughly. Prior to cooking it, the internal organs like the intestines and gills of the said kinds of seafood should also be removed.
