Duterte Says That The Seized Hummers Must Go To The Police And Military
HUMMERS – President Rodrigo Duterte plans on having the seized hummers used by the police and military instead of having them destroyed.
In the previous article, it is stated that Duterte made a policy of the destruction of smuggled luxury cars recovered by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) last 2017.
He would not allow the auction of smuggled vehicles anymore, which is a common practice over the previous years. He pointed out how smugglers use fake consignees and allow the luxury cars to be confiscated before featuring in the auction. Duterte made the policy because he wants to discourage smugglers
Even more, Duterte urges importers of the vehicles to properly pay their taxes.
Last Monday, Duterte visited Cagayan to witness the destruction of smuggled vehicles and motorcycles that amounted to nearly ₱300 million. He, then, decided to deviate from his policy a little to add an exception to the said vehicles.
According to a report from CNN, he learned that more than 10 Hummers were seized by the government. He ordered to add the exception of Hummers and vans as he plans on giving these smuggled Hummers to the military and police.
He had a speech in the Joint 68th National Security Council and 69th National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Founding Anniversary regarding the use of the said vehicles.
Duterte said that the military will be riding Hummers since they are craving for them. He further added that the vans were visible near the local government, specifically in Cagayan. Thus, he asked them to split the vehicles among themselves based on the report.
