Palace Urges 54 Gas Stations to Explain Reported Price Increases

Malacañang Palace is asking 54 gas stations to explain reports that they raised fuel prices despite a call to avoid sudden increases.

According to Malacañang, the Department of Energy (DOE) has issued show cause orders to the gas stations involved. The action came after authorities received reports that several stations may have increased their prices without proper reason.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the DOE is now reviewing the situation after learning that a number of gasoline stations reportedly raised their prices. The show cause order requires the gas stations to explain their actions and show whether their price adjustments followed government rules.

Through this process, the Department of Energy aims to determine if the gas stations violated the government’s request to hold off on price increases, especially while the country monitors the effects of tensions in the Middle East on global oil supply.

Malacañang stressed that businesses should not take advantage of the situation, particularly during times when global events may affect fuel prices. The Palace reminded fuel retailers that cooperation is important to help protect consumers from sudden and unreasonable price hikes.

Officials also warned that gas stations found guilty of taking advantage of the situation may face serious consequences. Possible penalties include legal action and even the cancellation of their permits to operate.

The government emphasized that businesses have a responsibility to act fairly, especially when many people rely on stable fuel prices for their daily needs.

Transportation, deliveries, and many other services depend heavily on gasoline and diesel, making price changes a sensitive issue for both workers and ordinary commuters.

The investigation by the Department of Energy is expected to determine whether the reported price increases were justified or if the stations involved violated regulations.
