SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President went emotional as she recalled her decision to run for vice president instead of her mayoralty bid.

In 2022, then-Davao City Mayor Duterte withdrew her bid for the mayoralty race and decided to run with now-Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The BBM-Sara tandem joined the forces of the supporters of two (2) of the most powerful political clans in the Philippines.

However, the ties between Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte have gotten cold. In 2024, the Vice President left the Cabinet of Marcos Jr. and she also resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education.

Duterte then claimed that her decision to resign from being the DepEd secretary includes both personal and work reasons. Her camp believes that the Marcos Jr. administration allegedly wants her out after several impeachment complaints were filed against her.

Amid the accusations against her and the deepening rift between her and Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recently announced that she will run for president in 2028. She claimed that she realized that her life is not only for hers to live. Her declaration earned different reactions.

Recently, while giving a speech at a conference in Davao City, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte went emotional as she recalled her decision to run for the vice presidency and hurled around the “what if” should she has made a different decision. According to GMA News in a post, the Vice President claimed she thought about what might have happened if she pushed through running for the mayoralty post and did not run for vice president.

“Naisip ko kanina kung ano kaya ang mangyayari kung tumakbo na lang akong mayor at hindi ko na tinuloy ang pagtakbo ko bilang vice president,” Duterte said.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that she has already recruited someone to be her running mate in the 2028 Elections. However, she did not name the person. According to her, it is to protect the person while he/she is deciding.

Several names were linked to the possibility of being the running mate of the Vice President in 2028. Some of there are senators Bam Aquino and Imee Marcos and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. The presidential Sister is mum on questions about being Duterte’s running mate.

Amid the varying reactions on the recent events in the political field, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s former spokesman Harry Roque claimed that former Vice President and Naga Mayor Leni Robredo and the Kakampink may allegedly support Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2028.
