Some people call him a “nepo baby” because he comes from a well-known showbiz family. His father is known for his business activities in the entertainment industry, and her stepmother is Angel Locsin, one of the best actresses in the industry.
Due to this, critics assume he may have had easier access to opportunities.
In a post, Angel defended her stepson from this accusation. While she rarely checks social media, she was surprised by some of the remarks she came across. She asked why Joaquin was being criticized, saying it was unfair to brand him based on family ties.
The award-winning actress also pushed back against comparisons being made about privilege, reminding the public of the struggles and hardships she went through before she became successful. She even recalled commuting by jeepney and bus to attend tapings in her early years in showbiz and stressed that everything she has achieved came from honest work.
According to her, she personally supported Joaquin throughout his journey, even joking that she might add to the 12,000 votes she had already given him just to frustrate those creating issues.
She also added something possible, such as pulling some strings to secure him a project, but he instead chose to audition for Pinoy Big Brother on his own. Her post ended with, “Wag bitter. Nakakapanget yan.”
