Sen. Robin Padilla Asked About Rumored Senate Leadership Change
ROBIN PADILLA – The Senator admitted that he wants a Senate president who is supportive of Vice President Sara Duterte if the impeachment complaint against her reaches the chamber.
Currently, both Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are faced with impeachment complaints. Two (2) impeachment raps were filed against each of them before the Office of the House Secretary General.

Following the filing of an impeachment rap, Atty. Michael Poa, the lawyer of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, claimed that the Vice President is ready to face the impeachment complaints against her. The camp of the Vice President also tagged the impeachment raps as allegedly “baseless”.
In 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is “unconstitutional”. According to the high court, it violated the one-year ban rule and a fresh impeachment rap may only be filed against the Vice President starting February 6.

Ahead of the lifting of the ban, two (2) impeachment raps were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte — one filed by the Makabayan bloc while the other was filed by Tindig Pilipinas. The Vice President is accused of alleged culpable violations of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
Amid the existing impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Duterte, there are rumors of an alleged looming Senate leadership. Recently, minority Sen. Robin Padilla was asked about the matter.

According to News5, Sen. Robin Padilla claimed that he allegedly sees no reason for a need to change the Senate leadership now. The chamber is currently led by Senate Pres. Tito Sotto. He stressed that the rumors are just gossips.
Sen. Robin Padilla admitted that in certain cases like for example the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reaches the Senate, he wants a Senate president who is supportive of the Vice President. Based on the post, he initially claimed that he wants a “pro-Philippines” Senate Chief if the impeachment case against Duterte is referred to the Senate but confirmed that he wants someone supportive of the Vice President.
“Siguro ‘pag usapan ng impeachment (baka gusto ko mag-iba ng leader). ‘Di naman siguro kaila sa inyo, ayaw ko ng impeachment. ‘Di ba obvious?” Padilla said.
In 2025, the Senate archived the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte after the Supreme Court ruled it as “unconstitutional”. Nineteen (19) senators supported the motion to archive the complaint.
