2 Impeachment Complaints vs. Marcos Jr. Referred to House Committee on Justice
MARCOS JR. – The President claimed that his son, Ilocos Norte Congressman Sandro Marcos, didn’t inform him about his recusal from the impeachment process.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos is currently faced with two (2) impeachment raps filed against him before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The first complaint was penned by lawyer lawyer Andre de Jesus.
The first impeachment complaint filed against the President was endorsed by Deputy Minority Leader at Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay. In the said rap, the complainant accused him of alleged betrayal of public trust based on the following grounds:
- Respondent ordered and enabled the kidnapping and surrender of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- Respondent is unfit to serve as President due to drug addiction.
- Respondent committed betrayal of public trust when he failed to veto unprogrammed appropriations (UA) and other unconstitutional provisions in the General Appropriations Bill (GAB).
- Respondent engaged in graft and corruption through kickbacks and ghost projects.
- Respondent created the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to shield corrupt allies.
- Respondent violated the Constitution and betrayed public trust by surrendering former President Duterte to the ICC.
The second impeachment complaint filed against Marcos Jr. was filed by the Makabayan bloc. The rap wherein the President is also accused of alleged betrayal of public trust was endorsed by party-list opposition lawmakers Antonio Tinio of ACT Teachers, Sarah Elago of Gabriela and Renee Co of Kabataan party-list.
The ban on the filing of impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. has officially started after the House has referred two (2) impeachment complaints to the Committee on Justice. Prior to it, presidential son and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos announced his recusal from the impeachment process.
Through a statement, House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos said that he steps back from participating in the House process of the impeachment complaint against his father to protect the integrity of the chamber. The presidential Son stressed that his move is “not a retreat from responsibility, but as an affirmation of it”.
Recently, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spoke on the decision of his son, Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos, not to participate in the process of the House of Representatives regarding the impeachment complaints filed against him. Based on a report on GMA News, he claimed that the presidential Son did not inform him about his decision.
Meanwhile, although they have not talked about the decision of Cong. Sandro Marcos to recuse from the House impeachment process, Marcos Jr. stressed that his son is doing the right thing. The President believes that his son has bias for him being his father.
”Hindi niya sinasabi sa akin. Pero tama ‘yung ginagawa niya. That’s very proper dahil I am his father. And siyempre, mayroon siyang bias for me,” the President said.
Furthermore, based on the report, Marcos Jr. further claimed that it is only right for Cong. Sandro to “remove himself from the process so that the process can be seen to be fair and proper”. Previously, Malacañang stressed that not only the President will be affected by the impeachment complaints filed against him.
