ABS-CBN actor Joshua Garcia has this to say after working with box-office director Direk Cathy Garcia-Sampana.
From being a mentee of pioneers like Marilou Diaz-Abaya, Olivia Lamasan, and Chito Roño, Direk Cathy Garcia-Sampana has become the most successful directors in the entertainment industry with several blockbuster films under her belt.
Her film Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019) became the highest-grossing Philippine film of all time at its release, and the sequel to this film, Hello, Love, Again, surpassed the record of the former and is now the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time as of this writing.
This year, her latest work is not the usual rom-com movie that she has become a master of, but a tear-jerker that will narrate the realities of life, death, love, and family. The title is ‘Meet, Greet & Bye,’ starring Maricel Soriano, Belle Mariano, Piolo Pascual, Joshua Garcia, and Juan Karlos in the lead roles.
Garcia, in an interview, spoke about working with the blockbuster director, and they have actually worked on some projects in the past. Just like the others, he has also experienced the sharpness of her tongue, but for him, he accepted her words in a professional and constructive way.
According to him, the director’s anger was nothing personal. She has always spoken for the actor’s growth and correcting mistakes.
“Pero kasi yung pagalit niya kasi, hindi siya galit na parang namemersonal, e. Kumbaga, may itinama din siya sa pagkakamali mo. Mga instructions, ganyan, yun mga tinatama niya. And maiintindihan mo bilang aktor. Bilang nandodoon ka, bilang nagtatrabaho ka. Hindi mo siya mamasamain,” he said.
He always knew how sharp her tongue was, and it’s all coming from a place of someone who cares. As an actor, he felt nothing but appreciation as the director only makes sure that they deliver their movie’s message clearly and well.
