In May 2025, Duterte Youth party-list chairperson Ronald Cardema filed an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. This was the first, and it was filed before the House of Representatives.

In a social media post, Cardema said the complaint was “for allowing the transfer of a Filipino Citizen, former President Rodrigo Duterte, to foreigners.” The complaint came two months after former President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested and immediately sent to The Hague for detention.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for former President Rodrigo Duterte as part of its ongoing investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed in the Philippines during the implementation of his anti-drug campaign from 2011 to 2019.

Recently, it appears that another impeachment complaint against President Marcos Jr. will be filed. This time, it came from Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga. In a social media post, Barzaga showed in a video a document that reflects an impeachment complaint against the president.

It stated: “Under the grounds of betrayal of public trust, I am filing an impeachment for President Marcos. And hopefully, Congress will remove him soon so we can start investigating those involved in the flood control anomalies.”

The Senate is currently investigating the ghost and substandard flood control projects that involve billions of pesos of taxpayers’ money. To recall, it was President Marcos Jr. who bared the top 15 firms involved in the flood control anomalies.
