Pres. Bongbong Marcos Visits Cebu following 6.9 Magnitude Quake

BONGBONG MARCOS – The President pledged to give P225-million aid for recovery efforts and a “tent city” for Cebu following the earthquake.

The recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Cebu last September 30 caused massive destructions among homes, churches, and several buildings in Cebu. Unfortunately, as of this writing, at least 70 people were left dead by the quake. The strong shaking also prompted the hospitals to order the evacuation of the medical staff, doctors, nurses, and the patients.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) located the epicenter of the quake in Bogo City. Several other provinces in the Visayas region felt the tremor. The quake left countless areas in the region with no power supply.

Countless Cebuanos are still in evacuation centers after their homes were damaged by the earthquake and the landslide that it has caused. Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos visited the province and met with some of the victims of the quake.

The President was with some members of his Cabinet during a visit in Cebu following the 6.9 magnitude earthquake. He came in touch with the quake victims in Bogo City where the epicenter of the quake was located.

Following his visit to Cebu which was greatly damaged by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that was followed with thousands of aftershocks, Pres. Bongbong Marcos pledged at least P225 million aid for Cebu to support its recovery efforts. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the President also pledged to build a “tent city” in the province for the evacuees who lost their homes to the calamity.

Marcos Jr. stressed that the officials are uncertain over the conditions of the evacuation centers, thus, he pledged to put up a tent city to be the temporary abode of several families affected by the quake. Based on the report, at least 600 dwellings were wrecked by the earthquake.

“Our decision was to procure giant tents… We will build a tent city that can be put up swiftly and will shield people from rain,” the President said.

Prior to his visit, Malacañang confirmed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos has ordered the government agencies to provide help to the victims of the Cebu earthquake. Several officials of other cities and provinces, showbiz celebrities, and vloggers also extended their helping hand to the Cebuanos.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also showed up in Cebu following the deadly 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
