Typhoon Karen Surges – The Typhoon Karen which has an international name ā€œSarikaā€ is now gaining its strength as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility having more areas declared with Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals, as reported.

In a report by GMA News, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has brought the weather forecast on Saturday morning, October 15, 2016.

As of 9am today, October 15, 2016, Saturday, Typhoon Karen was located at 95 km North Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. At 4 in the morning, it recorded maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers-per-hour and gustiness of up to 180 kilometers-per-hour.

The report added that Typhoon Karen was targeting the path of the west-northwest at a speed of 13 kilometers-per-hour.

Typhoon Karen has been forecasted to pass to Polillo Island Sunday morning or noon before making a landfall somewhere in Aurora or Quezon province.

Meanwhile, Signal no. 3 has been raised over Catanduanes. Signal no. 2 is being declared to the areas of:

  • Aurora, and
  • Camarines Norte,
  • Camarines Sur,
  • northern Quezon including Polillo Island

While Signal no.1 has been declared in the areas of:

  • Albay,
  • Bataan,
  • Batangas,
  • Benguet,
  • Bulacan,
  • Cavite,
  • Ifugao, and
  • Isabela,
  • La Union,
  • Laguna,
  • Marinduque,
  • Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands,
  • Metro Manila,
  • Northern Samar.
  • Nueva Ecija,
  • Nueva Vizcaya,
  • Oriental Mindoro,
  • Pampanga,
  • Pangasinan,
  • Quirino,
  • Rizal,
  • Romblon,
  • Sorsogon,
  • Tarlac,
  • the rest of Quezon,
  • Zambales,

PAGASA reminded that the areas under Signal no. 3 and 2 may experience storm surges. Also, the weather bureau warned of flash floods and landslides in all areas with warning signal due to the amount of rainfall expected.

Fishermen and small sea vessels were also given warning against sailing over the seas of Eastern Samar.

Everyone is advised of preparing their emergency kits in case of an evacuation due to the intensity of the Typhoon Karen.
