Recently, Lani Benavidez, a Filipina from Naic, Cavite, now living in Chandler, Arizona received unexpected blessings after a social experiment changed her life. The story earns reactions from the online community.
While working at Dollar Tree, Lani was approached by Jimmy Darts, a social media influencer known for helping people. Pretending to be hungry, Jimmy asked her for a small amount to buy a box of cereal.
Without hesitation, Lani gave him $2 (about P117), not realizing it was all part of a hidden experiment. To her surprise, Jimmy handed her the cereal box containing $1,000 (around P58,620).
Overwhelmed, Lani shared the challenges her family was facing, particularly her husband’s battle with cancer.
Jimmy decided to start an online fundraiser to support Lani. The campaign quickly gained attention, and donations poured in from people who were moved by her kindness. Days later, Jimmy returned to Lani’s workplace and handed her $50,000 (P2.9 million) from the donations.
The blessings didn’t stop there. The fundraiser has now reached $93,000 (around P5.4 million), with contributions still growing. Lani couldn’t believe the generosity and expressed how thankful she was for the unexpected help.
Her son, Kyle, shared how proud he was of his mom and admitted the story brought him to tears. He also reflected on a lesson she taught him to always help others and treat them with kindness because you never know how things might come full circle.
“Every day may pumapasok sa bank account ko hanggang ngayon… I am grateful kasi hindi kami pinababayaan ng Diyos,” Benavidez. Said.

“Today I was in Walmart and asked a stranger if they’d help buy me food because I hadn’t eaten all day. I met the most amazing lady, a true angel named Lani. Lani immediately helped me and I then revealed that the food was for her. Before even looking into the box, Lani started to tear up. Then, when she saw it was a $1,000 she burst into tears. Lani shared with me that her husband was sick and in the hospital with cancer and that he was the main one paying the bills. She works at Dollar Tree but unfortunately, her income is not enough for her car payment and her rent with her husband unable to provide income. When I asked if she was afraid she would get evicted she broke down crying again.
Let’s come together and help this angel during this incredible heartache and overcome the difficulty she is facing right now. ”
