APT is a playful song with a punk rock tune. Rosé and Bruno Mars also released a fun video that matched the vibe of the song. It was easy for online users to vibe with the song because of its catchy line “Apateu apateu”. This also featured an easy choreography of stacking hands gesture.

Based on the article in Philstar Life, APT is a shortened word for “apartment”. In Korea, this word is pronounced “apateu”. One of the famous drinking games in Korea called “Apartment game” inspired this song.

In an interview with Vogue, Rosé shared the story behind the creation of the song. It started when he introduced the Korean drinking game to her colleagues. “We were hanging out in the studio, and I was like, ‘How about I teach you guys some drinking games, Korean drinking games?’ and then I started doing it,” the K-pop star shared.

In this game, a player would say a number, and other players should stack up their hands from bottom to top corresponding to the number that a player gave. Whoever lands on top at the last count has to take the drink.

The K-pop star shared that when she did this, her colleagues became obsessed with it, and the next, she created a song from this but she was hesitant about the song initially.

“So, we were playing APT, and the next day I was like, ‘Okay, today’s the day, I think we should write the song,’ and we did, but then I remember going home kind of freaked out. I was like, ‘Is this OK, that I’ve written a song about a drinking game? Is this too unserious?’” Rosé shared.

The Blackpink member revealed that when she presented three songs to Bruno Mars for the collaboration, APT was chosen.
