Pastor Apollo Quiboloy To Join 2025 Senatorial Race
APOLLO QUIBOLOY – The founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ who is currently in detention filed his candidacy for senator in the May 2025 Elections.
In the upcoming 2025 Midterm Elections, both local and national elections are set to be held. The period set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the filing of the Certificates of Candidacy (CoC) is over. Undeniably, one of the candidacies that shocked many people was that of Pastor Quiboloy.
It was a month ago when Pastor Quiboloy who is faced with several charges surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) authorities. His arrest came after several months of search operations and a few weeks of intensified search ops at the KOJC compound in Davao City.
The PNP operations inside the KOJC compound included drilling operations. The authorities initially believed that the Pastor may be hiding in a bunker after a heartbeat was detected underground.
Currently, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is under the custody of the PNP. His camp previously expressed a plan to seek remedies to transfer his custody to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) or be under a house arrest.
Recently, countless people were surprised when Pastor Apollo Quiboloy filed his Certificate of Candidacy for senator. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, his candidacy was filed by an authorized representative of the KOJC Founder, one of his lawyers, Mark Tolentino.
According to the report, the religious leader is running for senator under the banner of Workers’ and Peasants’ Party. However, the party’s Attorney Sonny Matula denied signing his certificate of nomination and acceptance.
“Upon inquiring, the other two, Atty Ariel Arias (Chair) and Dr. Oscar Morado (SVP), have also stated that they have no knowledge of signing a CONA for him,” Matula said.
Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s lawyer said that the platform of the KOJC Founder will be “God-centered, Philippine-centered, and Filipino-centered”. According to Atty. Tolentino, the Pastor will be the senator for the poor, ordinary Filipinos, and workers.
“Pastor Quiboloy will be the senator sa mga mahihirap, senator sa mga ordinaryong Pilipino, senador sa mga manggagawa,” Tolentino said.
It is only Pastor Quiboloy who is detained at the PNP Custodial Center as his co-accused were moved to Pasig City Jail. The said decision was met with different reactions.
