EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.6 magnitude quake in Camarines Norte, August 5, 2024. Here are the details.

Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Camarines Norte and it has a magnitude of 4.6.

The earthquake that struck Camarines Norte, Monday, August 5, 2024, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Camarines Norte was located at 15.08°North, 122.93°East – 067 km North 1° West of Tinaga Island (Vinzons). It had a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that aftershocks are not expected from the said quake as well as damages. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
