4 More Provinces Added on Areas under State of Calamity due to Typhoon Carina, Habagat
AREAS UNDER STATE OF CALAMITY – Here is a list of areas that are currently under the calamity declaration due to Typhoon Carina.
Several areas in the Philippines were severly hit by Typhoon Carina. Prior to its entry in the country, the weather experts forecasted the possibility that it can turn into a super typhoon. Most of the areas affected are in Luzon.
Typhoon Carina brought heavy rains and strong winds in several areas in the country. The storm intensified the southwest monsoon or the habagat. Houses and livelihoods were damaged due to the natural calamity and fatalities were recorded as well.
President Bongbong Marcos previously explained why he cannot declare a State of Calamity. He left it in the prerogative of the local government units (LGUs). Several LGUs have declared under the declaration.
On Wednesday, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) declared the National Capital Region under a State of Calamity. Recently, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that four (4) more provinces are under a State of Calamity.
According to interior secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., a State of Calamity was declared in Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas as per a report in GMA News. Here is a list of areas under the State of Calamity:
- National Capital Region (NCR)
- Bataan
- Bulacan
- Batangas
- Cavite
- Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
- Kabacan, Cotabato
- Pikit, Cotabato
- Butuan, Davao de Occidental
- Barangays Nuing, Balangunan, Quiapo, Butuan, Molmol, and San Isidro in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
Abalos further expressed that there are more areas hardly hit by Typhoon Carina. Based on the article, as of today, the following areas were also severaly hit by the storm that intensified the habagat:
- Abucay, Bataan
- Baliwag, Bulacan
- Obando, Bulacan
- Plaridel, Bulacan
- Pulilan, Bulacan
- Sta. Maria, Bulacan
- Cainta, Rizal
- Taytay, Rizal
- San Mateo, Rizal
- Morong, Rizal
- Rodriguez, Rizal
- Angono, Rizal
- Tingloy, Batangas
At least 36,000 families were evacuated in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Ilocos Region, Mimaropa, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, NCR, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) due to the typhoon. Based on the report, the number of fatalities is currently at 14.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that four people died in Zamboanga and one each in Davao, Northern Mindanao, Metro Manila, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Currently, the NDRRMC is validating reports about five deaths in Calabarzon and one in Bangsamoro due to Typhoon Carina.
